POA stamp duty is one of the more commonly misunderstood ones, because it is not a single flat figure — it depends heavily on what the Power of Attorney is actually for.

Why the value depends on the type of POA

A general administrative POA (banking, day-to-day affairs) typically attracts a modest, nominal duty. A POA that authorises the sale, transfer or development of immovable property is charged differently — often on a scale closer to the property's value or the transaction it authorises, because the law treats it as carrying weight similar to the transaction itself. We confirm which category applies before quoting a figure.

What we need to know

Exactly what the POA authorises — collecting a cheque, operating a bank account, managing a rented-out flat, or selling a property. The more specific you can be, the more accurately we can confirm the correct duty and drafting.

Registration

A POA for selling or transferring immovable property is typically also required to be registered at the sub-registrar's office. E-stamping alone covers the duty; it does not substitute for registration where the law requires it — we will tell you clearly if your case needs both.
